What is the role of the welfare state at a time of economic crisis, fiscal austerity and social problems? This conference, organized by the University of Lisbon, will promote interdisciplinary academic discussion on the transformation of the welfare state in Portugal, at a time of financial austerity, economic crisis and rising social risks.

This conference aims to stimulate scientific research and to exchange of ideas and diverse theoretical and methodological analytical views on the role of the state and of social policy in Portugal and Europe. Both literature reviews and empirical papers are welcome.

Call for papers

The conference organizing committee invites expressions of interest from interested in presenting a paper at this conference.

All papers submitted must be written in English.

Abstracts should be about 200 words and should contain the following information and have the following form:

1.    Title:
2.    Contact details: author(s), affiliation, postal address, phone number and e-mail address
3.    Main subject of the paper
4.    Methodology and sources of data/information used for the analysis
5.    Main findings expected from the analysis

TIMELINE

• Deadline for abstract submission: 8th February 2014
• The conference committee will inform successful applicants by 15 ^th February 2014
• Registration for the conference opens on 1 ^st March 2014
• The deadline for paper submission is 30 ^th April 2014
