During 2020, ISEG will pay tribute to the work and memory of the economist Manuela Silva, honorary doctorate and former professor at ISEG. In February, ISEG will organize an evocation session and in October, a scientific conference dedicated to the topic on the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty (October 17). Throughout the year, ISEG will promote the publication of a book on the tribute.
Former Secretary of State for Planning in the 1st Constitutional Government, Manuela Silva was the face of the fight against poverty in Portugal. The eradication of poverty is the first of the Sustainable Development Goals defined by the UN, and it is in this context that the Institute of Economics and Management plans a set of initiatives to pay tribute to Manuela Silva, a pioneer in the study of inequality and poverty in our country.
"With a life dedicated to causes of great economic and social relevance, Manuela Silva's legacy fits in fully with ISEG's DNA: to be at the forefront of quantitative knowledge in economics and management, with a particular focus on its social contextualization"explains Clara Raposo, President of ISEG.
2020 is also the year in which ISEG launches its platform for sustainability, in which the contribution made by its alumni, students, faculty and staff in the context of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the UN agenda 2030 is presented.
