- ISEG becomes the 130th business school to obtain the triple crown (EQUIS, AACSB, AMBA), a distinction that encompasses less than 1% of the business schools around the world
- ISEG joins prestigious schools such as London Business School, Imperial College, Saïd, Warwick, HEC Paris, INSEAD, St. Gallen, and Babson
- In Europe, only 118 schools have EQUIS accreditation
- In Portugal, only three schools have EQUIS accreditation
ISEG - Lisbon School of Economics & Management has been awarded EQUIS accreditation by EFMD, one of the leading international accrediting bodies in the management education sector. This accreditation recognises the quality and excellence in the provision of management education which is comparable worldwide.
According to João Duque, the Dean of ISEG - Lisbon School of Economics & Management, "The EQUIS accreditation awarded to ISEG shows that the education that we offer is of the highest level of quality in the international offer where the people, systems and impact of the School compare with the best international standards. I'm proud to be the Dean of a State School of Economics and Management, which despite the restrictions and means that this framework imposes on us, not only achieves this level of quality, but does so without losing its Portuguese identity, i.e., whilst maintaining its culture, language, irreverence, freedom of thought, innovation, ambition for change, commitment to the fight for sustainable development, and intervention in public life, giving back to Portuguese society what it gives us."
The panel of evaluators, who, on the EFMD's recommendation carried out the accreditation visit, was made up of three Deans of reputable international schools, and have given the school several compliments, highlighting its reputation, external governance, balance of the portfolio of programs, quality of students, quantity of research, progress in internationalization, international advisory board, financial strength and the quality of the university campus.
ISEG is the third Portuguese school to be awarded EQUIS accreditation. In the Iberian Peninsula, Lisbon clearly stands out from the neighbouring country's capital, with three accredited schools in its region, while Madrid has only one. Compared to the other European capitals, apart from Lisbon, only London, Paris, Dublin, and Warsaw have three or more schools with EQUIS accreditation. In terms of world capitals, they are joined by Beijing, Singapore and Bangkok.
Together with ISEG, one further school was announced by EFMD as having obtained EQUIS accreditation, namely the Business School of Hunan University in China. Several internationally-renowned schools hold EQUIS accreditation, including London Business School, Imperial College, Saïd and Alliance Manchester in the UK, HEC Paris and INSEAD in France, St. Gallen and IMD in Switzerland, and Babson in the US.
This international accreditation comes a year after ISEG was reaccredited by the AACSB and at a time when the School was considered to be the 30th best school in the world in the Financial Times 2024 Masters in Finance ranking, being ranked 25th best in Europe and is also climbing up the Executive Education table in the same ranking.
