The next event of the Cinema and Decolonisation Cycle is scheduled for 10 May, at 10.00, in ISEG's Auditorium 2 (Quelhas, 2nd Floor), and will show the documentary Omi Nobu (Carlos Yuri Ceuninck, 2023, Cape Verde, 64 min.). In 2023, the project received the Golden Standard at the FESPACO - Pan African Film and Television Festival in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, and an Honorable Mention in the category of Best Medium Length Documentary at the Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival in 2024.
The story takes place on the island of São Nicolau, in Cape Verde, in Ribeira Funda. Its inhabitants have experienced a series of disastrous events, to the point where frightening superstitions lead them to flee the village to escape the forces of evil. Everyone left the village to settle in the nearby Estância de Brás. All except one: Quirino.
After the projection, there will be a debate, with the participation of several guests.
The Decolonisation Film Cycle will run until June 2025, with monthly screenings in ISEG's Auditorium 2 and free admission. This initiative runs parallel to the exhibition Deconstructing Colonialism, Decolonizing the Imaginary, at the National Museum of Ethnology until 2 November.
Free admission, subject to room capacity.
