Cinema and Decolonisation Cycle | Screening of the film "Our Lady of the Chinese Shop"

The last session of the Cinema Cycle will take place on 7 June, with the screening of the film entitled Our Lady of Loja do Chinês, by Ery Clayer.

Can a plastic statue of Our Lady influence its surroundings? This movie shows that this is possible, at least in Luanda.

Set in 2022, this film relates a chain of events tyat were triggered by the arrival of this religious figure in a Chinese store, following the lefes of characters such as Domingas, a grieving mother; Bessa, a barber who creates a cult around the statue; and Zoyo, a child seeking revenge.

The film covers topics such as superstition, the desire for revenge, secrets, and violence, while reflecting on the impact of colonialism and the challenges facing contemporary Angola.

The session will take place on 7 June, in ISEG's Auditorium 2, at 10.00. Free admission.
