"What solutions for hiring teachers?" will be the theme of the second event in the Cycle of Debates - Portugal: Small steps for big changes, organized by the Institute of Public Policy and SEDES.
The debate takes place at on September 28 at 17:30, at SEDESThe event will be attended by Alexandre Homem Cristo, João Baptista, Sandra Maximiano (ISEG) and Isabel Flores. Opening the event will be the representatives of IPP and SEDES, Paulo Trigo Pereira (ISEG) and Álvaro Beleza, respectively.
By 2030, 47,000 teachers will have left the schools due to retirement. The demographic decline is taking pupils out of the classroom, but despite this, 34,500 new teachers will be needed over the next decade.
What public policy solutions can meet the needs of schools and students in terms of teaching staff? Should schools have a say in choosing their teachers? Could the recruitment base for teachers be widened even further to include professionals from areas unrelated to teaching? And if so, should this measure be thought of as an emergency response in a context of particular need or, on the contrary, as adding value for schools and students?
The Cycle of Debates is dedicated to discussing concrete proposals that can have a transformative effect on the country.
You can follow the event online at Facebook of the IPP.
