Library User Training | Mapping academic literature with VOSviewer

We hereby invite you to take part in an online training on workshop on 'Mapping academic literature with VOSviewer", on the 16th May, from 18:00 to 20:00.

This workshop is free and is designed for Masters and PhD students, faculty, researchers, and librarians, providing them with the necessary skills to be able to carry out bibliometric analysis using VOSviewer.

It begins with a concise introduction to the principles of bibliometric analysis, including its objectives and relevance. The session then moves on to a practical approach, in which participants are guided through the process of installing VOSviewer, mastering its interface and using its main features to create comprehensive bibliometric visualizations and analyses. By the end of the workshop, participants will have gained the skills to carry out bibliometric analyses independently, enabling them to identify research trends, outline collaboration networks and measure academic impact. This workshop will enable participants to refine their research approaches and gain a deeper understanding of the academic landscape.

Learning objectives:

  1. Install and navigate VOSviewer:
    - Install VOSviewer and familiarise yourself with its interface and main features, enabling effective navigation for literature mapping tasks.
  2. Retrieving and preparing databases:
    - Learn to identify, access, and prepare bibliometric databases for analysis.
  3. Carry out bibliometric analysis:
    - Co-authorship analysis for mapping collaboration networks.
    - Keyword co-occurrence analysis to discover trends and research topics.
    - Citation analysis to identify publications and authors with impact.
    - Bibliographic coupling analysis to explore similarities between documents and clusters literature.
    - Analysis of co-citations to reveal relationships between frequently cited works.
