As part of the PhD in Economic and Social History. Speaker: Ana Carina Azevedo - IHC, FCSH-UNL
Summary:
In this communication, we intend to raise debate about the role of the state in the process of developing the Scientific Organization of Work in Portugal, by comparing it with other national realities.
In fact, among the various aspects that are usually part of the analysis of the issue at international level, the impact of state measures is perhaps one of the most considered. But to what extent can we say that in some countries the state has been a driving force behind the process? The answer will necessarily have to take into account the characteristics of each country, as well as the political changes that took place there over the period under study. As such, we propose a necessarily brief comparison of the process of development of the Scientific Organization of Work in Portugal, Spain and France, by identifying some of its main milestones and linking them to some aspects of the political and economic situation of the decades between the beginning of the 20th century and World War II.
