Pedro Rino Vieira

Biography

Pedro Rino Vieira is an Assistant Professor of Finance with Department of Management of ISEG – Lisbon School of Economics & Management, Universidade de Lisboa, Portugal). Pedro is also a researcher affiliated with CSG – Research in Social Sciences and Sociology. Pedro’s primary areas of expertise are Financial Investments and Corporate Finance.

Pedro has a bachelor's degree in management from ISEG. After concluding his degree, Pedro started a career as a consultant with VAL – Valorização de Activos, SA (1999-2005). He had the opportunity to work on different projects, both as a consultant and as a member of the General Management. Pedro also was a founder of VAL-Formare, VAL’s branch focused on human capital management, particularly, professional training. In 2004 and 2005, Pedro trained dozens of upper level employes from Sonangol in financial statement analysis.

By this time, Pedro concluded his MBA and master’s in management. Immediately after he started a position as an Assistant with Universidade Lusófona. Later, ISEG invited Pedro to start teaching Financial Accounting. In September of 2006, Pedro started his career as an Educator/Professor with ISEG.

At ISEG, Pedro engaged in a large number of projects, including teaching in Angola, Mozambique, Turkey and Iran, Executive Education, and consultancy. In 2016, Pedro completed his PhD in Management/Finance at Universidade de Lisboa.

During the COVID-19 Pandemic, Pedro became a coordinator of the new master’s in law and management, a joint venture between ISEG and FDUL, the law school of Universidade de Lisboa. This is a program with a multicultural body of students, positioned as a flagship program. More recently, in 2023, initiated a collaboration with ACTEX, producing business finance content for actuarial science students, candidates for IFoA certification.

As a researcher, Pedro works in ESG, Capital Structure, Payout Policy, Management Control, Empirical Asset Pricing, Asset Management and Risk Management. Pedro always tries to adopt both a managerial and a behavioral approach in his research.
