Resumo
This dissertation provides new insights on the “golden visa” program in Malta.
“Golden visa” programs, that offer citizenship for investments are popular among many
countries in the world. Those programs are mainly focused on different direct investments
– bonds, real estate, social funds etc. We will study the influence of “golden visa” on the
economy of Malta, standard of living and GDP. As a result, obtained data and conclusions
would allow us to make some recommendations and precautions. One of the observations
obtained is the increase in GDP and common wealth. Real estate prices rise at a higher
rate than the wealth. Increase in FDI by 50% at the start of the “golden visa” program.
One of the recommendations is to exclude real estate from the investments and focus on
production and service sector, funds.
