Resumo
Digital transformation and the adoption of hybrid work have played a key role in reshaping the operations of companies in Portugal, and the biotechnology sector is no exception. This study investigates digital transformation and the adoption of hybrid work in a Portuguese small and medium-sized enterprise (SME). The research intends to clarify the effects of applying digital tools coupled with an hybrid working approach on organizational strategy, employee performance and the overall organization’s efficiency. This study employs a methodology involving qualitative semi-structured interviews with significant employees who have experienced these changes in the company. The results reveal that the digital transformation has significantly reshaped the company's operations, increased efficiency and enabling more agile responses to market demands. The adoption of digital tools has simplified communication and collaboration, while the automation of processes has further improved productivity. Furthermore, the shift to hybrid work also has its benefits, for instance, it facilitates a better work-life balance, increased satisfaction levels among employees and it enables productivity to be sustained for longer periods of time. However, there have also been identified some challenges, such as maintaining effective communication, promoting team spirit and the over reliance on technology. This research contributes to the growing body of knowledge on digital transformation and hybrid work in SMEs, offering practical insights for organizations navigating these changes.
