Resumo
The present internship report investigates the drivers of sustainability reporting and the relevance of asset integration and investment for attaining sustainable performance in the ceramics industry. The aim of this report is to explore how companies in this sector effectively integrate sustainability principles in their activity to boost competitiveness and performance. This report stems from an internship at Grestel – Produtos Cerâmicos S.A., a Portuguese company specialized in manufacturing and designing tableware, committed to sustainable practices. Focusing on the company, the primary aim of this study was to assess the impact of sustainability reporting on performance and competitive advantage. Through a qualitative approach with interviews and its connection with the literature review, this study explores the determinative aspects of sustainability reporting and asset management processes in the ceramics industry in Portugal. In addition, key topics such as circular economy, sustainability indicators and metrics, SDGs in a business environment and ERP’s impact on sustainable performance are analyzed to provide an insightful approach to this subject matter. The main findings of this study outline the relevance of aligning asset management strategies with sustainability principles to promote sustainable performance. Moreover, as for suggestions for further research, we propose conducting a more thorough investigation of the Portuguese ceramics industry, using its natural resources and expertise to establish themselves as distinguished players on a global scale. In summary, this internship report allowed for a deeper understanding of sustainability practices in the ceramic sector, sharing useful insights for organizations aiming to succeed in the industry.
